The Medical Graduates of 1984 from the University of Malta celebrated their 20th Anniversary Reunion on Saturday 17th April 2004.   The evening started with a Mass of Thanksgiving by Fr Hilary Tagliaferro at the Mother of Good Counsel Church, Paceville.   This was followed by welcome drinks and dinner at the Portomaso Suite, Hilton Malta, St. Julian's, generously supported by AstraZeneca.    During the delicious dinner, a 20th Anniversary Directory (produced with the assistance of Servier) was distributed as a memento of the occasion, and a hamper was raffled in aid of the Andrea Spiteri Fund and of the Millennium Chapel.

After dessert, the doctors and their partners danced till the early hours of the morning to music from the sixties kindly provided by 'The Quacks', including the vocals of Dr James Degaetano.   The lively and enjoyable celebrations ended on a high 'note' when Dr Ramon Tonna on guitar and Dr Martin Borg on vocals joined the Quacks for an impromptu performance of Pink Floyd classics.    Many thanks go to all involved in the evening's preparations, namely Dr Denise Gatt, Dr Mario R Sammut, Dr Martin Borg, Mr Albert and Mrs Annette Scerri, Mr Gordon Caruana-Dingli, Dr James Degaetano, Dr Horace Gatt, Dr Christopher Zarb, and Mr Stefan Cassar from AstraZeneca.   A special mention goes to Dr Martin Francis Borg and Dr Mario S Sammut who came from abroad (Australia and the U.K. respectively) especially for the occasion.

Roll on the 25th Anniversary Celebrations!

The following composite digital photograph of the 1984 Medical Graduates celebrating their 20th Anniversary was prepared and provided by Mr Effie Ciantar.
The Medical Graduates of Malta of 1984 held their 15th Anniversary Reunion on Sunday 14 March 1999.   The day-long programme 'kicked off' at 9.00 a.m. with a 5-a-side soccer match at the Sports Pavilion of the Corinthia Mistra Village Clubhotel, Xemxija.   This was followed at 11.00 a.m. by a Mass of Thanksgiving at Xemxija Church, celebrated by former University Chaplain Fr Mario Jaccarini SJ, with animation organised by Dr Marie Ciantar and her husband Effie.   Celebrations culminated at 1.00 p.m. with a delicious Buffet Lunch at the Mistra Village Razzett Restaurant, after which commemorative limited edition prints of a John Martin Borg painting were distributed by representatives of Vivian Commercial Corporation Limited.

The reunion organiser, Dr Mario R Sammut, then handed out a 15th Anniversary Directory to the 45 (out of the original 80) graduates present.   He thanked them for participating, especially Dr Dennis Schiro', who came from Germany for the occasion, and Dr Julian Mamo for his help in the organisation of the event.   Dr Sammut also acknowledged the assistance given by various sponsors through their donations, with the surplus of  Lm 170 to be donated to "Id-Dar Tal-Provvidenza".   Following the taking of the accompanying commemorative photo, the festivities were officially brought to an end when Dr Sammut was given (with some difficulty) 'the bumps', one for each of the 15 years since graduation!

10th Anniversary Football Match by 1984 Medical Graduates

Medical Graduates of Malta of 1984 held a Fun Football Match on Sunday May 15 1994 at 9.30 a.m. at Ta' Qali Training Grounds to 'kick off' their long-awaited 10th Anniversary Reunion.   The star of the game was Dr Joseph Tonna, former first division centre-forward with Senglea, who scored two of the three goals netted by the 'Non-Hospital Greens', the third coming from a lovely angled chip by Dr John Mizzi.   Dr Victor Camilleri had the dubious honour of blasting a penalty over the bar, after the infringement was awarded to the 'Greens' by referee Dr Hermann Farrugia.   Despite valiant efforts by captain Dr Victor Calvagna at marshalling his team of 'Hospital Reds', they could only manage a second-half consolation goal from guest-player Mr Tony Gatt, who deservedly beat Dr Harold Abela, goalkeeper and captain of the stronger 'Greens'.   After the game came to an end, happily without any of the (not-so-fit) players needing medical attention, the commemorative photo (below) was taken of the tired and sweaty heroes with some of their proud offspring, before the former trooped off to their well-deserved hot showers.
